Roads in the Netherlands are of an excellent standard, though the surface quality can drop in more rural regions. Buses run frequently, on time, for reasonable prices and cover destinations all around the country - they put British public transport very much to shame. Taxi and coach services are also available throughout the country, and offer good services. Amsterdam also offers tram, underground and water taxi services, all of which offer great methods of getting around.
Rail services through the Netherlands are of an incredible quality - services cover the vast majority of the country, run regularly, are on time and are easily affordable, with a common pricing structure present through the country. Discount fares are also available, and a number of railcards can be used for travel.
Internal flights are available to airports around the Netherlands, and regular flights are available alongside chartered planes. The cost of flights makes it more likely that people will choose to travel by other means, however.
Dutch waterways are another popular method of getting around the country for those that want to see the sights as they travel, and regular services operate nationwide, as well as short haul journeys which are more aimed at the tourist market. Amsterdam's waterways offer water taxis amongst their public transport.
